The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Cincinnati and Columbus employs staff who are educated, trained and qualified in assisting people with epilepsy and their families in the area of counseling. They can help you and your family understand and deal with epilepsy and can often help with practical matters, like finding and keeping employment or advice in obtaining insurance or medications. Currently, there are 5 Licensed Social Workers on staff; one Licensed Professional Counselor; and one Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.
The counseling program helps people of all ages face their fears and achieve their goals through assistance that promotes living successfully with epilepsy through each stage of life. We provide education based, individual or family counseling services to provide support and maximize the personal and social adjustment of persons living with epilepsy. Services are directed toward capitalizing on the strengths of the individual and finding a solution to the issues that they are experiencing.
From the newly diagnosed person/parents who may be experiencing anger issues surrounding “why me?/why us?” to the person who is striving to maintain the structure of their life and may be having issues with self-esteem or self-confidence, to the person who is dealing with an immediate crisis (ex: out of medication), our counseling program aims to help individuals adequately cope with their issues and/or to connect persons with epilepsy and their families with appropriate and effective community resources.
