Adult Support group A primary purpose of the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio is to change the public perceptions and conversation about epilepsy and to act as a means to achieve the highest quality of life for the persons served. As a part of this effort, an Adult Support Group is provided as a forum for persons who are experiencing a wide range of emotions upon learning of their disorder. Feelings of loneliness, isolation or of having a disorder that is often misunderstood by the general public, can make the diagnosis difficult to accept. Spouses and family members may not know how to offer the kind of help most needed. Finding people who have experienced these feelings and problems, and have successfully learned to cope with issues presented by epilepsy, can be very helpful to others who are in the midst of confronting the challenges of living with this disorder. The Adult Support Group meets twice a month on the Persons with Epilepsy, their spouses, partners and parents are encouraged to attend. Support groups offer an opportunity to not only learn about community services, programs and resources, but as importantly, to discuss strategies to assist in having life run little more smoothly. In addition to informal sharing of experiences, the Support Group also provides epilepsy education and discussion of important related issues-such as medication assistance programs, health insurance, drivers' licensing-all of which can have a major impact on the quality of each person's life.
